Ms. Whitney's speech & Language page
Hi! My name is Whitney Dennis and I am the speech-language pathologist for USD #274. This is my fifth year as a speech pathologist, but my second year serving the Oakley school district. I've been married for four years and we have a little girl named Vada!
I am actually employed through the Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center, but get the pleasure of working in the Oakley school district four days a week. I spend my other day of the school week at Triplains working with kids with speech and language needs. While at Oakley, I spend my days evaluating and treating students with speech and language needs from birth to 21 years of age. During my four days in Oakley, my services are provided in homes, at Oakley Elementary School, the middle school, the high school, Logan County Head Start, and St. Joseph's Elementary School.
A school-based speech-language pathologist (SLP) evaluates, diagnoses, and treats speech and language disorders in the school setting. SLPs help with communication and swallowing problems that include: articulation (speech sounds), augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), language (vocabulary, concepts, grammar, etc.), social communication, voice, fluency (stuttering), and feeding/swallowing.
If I see your child for speech-language services or if you have communication concerns with your child, please feel free to contact me. You can reach me by email at [email protected] or by phone at (785) 672-7750 (cell) or (785) 671-3842 (school). Also, please feel free to refer to some resources down below that you may find helpful about speech-language and how you can help promote those skills at home.
